People you don't think about, but are glad they are there

Nothing means more to me than my children and their children. Nothing scares me more than when they or someone calls and says there's been an accident. Nothing makes me more comfortable than pulling up to the scene and seeing that the Anchorage Fire Department and Anchorage Police Department are there taking care of my loved ones while I'm on my way there.

Cassie had just dropped Trinity off at her moms house and then was on her way to school. She stopped as she always does at Starbucks that's inside Carrs / Safeway on Muldoon. The roads were very slick and many hadn't been sanded by the city or state trucks. She had Flo in 4 wheel drive and headed to school. The truck lost traction and hit the median and flipped on its roof.

Besides being very sore now, Cassie wasn't hurt. She unbuckled her seat belt and crawled out of the passenger rear window. A gentleman (who's name I didn't get but thanked personally) stopped to make sure she was OK and called 911.

Cassie called me from this gentleman's phone and I dropped everything and was there within 10 minutes. She was sitting in the fire engine staying warm while she waited on me and a wrecker. The Captain told me she was OK and brought me up to date on everything. The APD Officer stayed on scene until the wrecker arrived. Of course Flo was upside down in the middle of the road pointing the wrong direction.

Cassie had told me she was OK, but when the Fire Captain reconfirmed that, I started breathing again. These men and women we take for granted sometimes, but when your little girl is in danger........

I'm glad that she had Flo. A large old truck that helped protect her. Thanks Flo, you did your job. Thanks to the men and women of AFD & APD. Also, thanks to the gentleman who stopped to assist. You all are awesome!
