2013 Midnight Sun Intertribal Powwow

I always enjoy visiting Fairbanks. As for the past 5 years I've gone to the Midnight Sun Intertribal Powwow. It's very inspiring to listen to the different elders talk of their ancestors and what one should do in their own future to make themselves a better person and this a better place.

Alaska Natives, American Indians, and First Nations People of Canada in a powwow setting to share similarities and diversities, to honor the elders, and children, and to educate the general public of the heritage of the indigenous people of North America.

Dancers are invited from all over America. The regalia they wear from their tribal ancestry is nothing less then beautiful.

To see each dancer put their heart into each dance is very inspiring.

Young and older dancers, traditional and modern, they were all represented well.

Right before the ending, an eagle is released back to the wild. One that had been rehabilitated at the Bird Treatment and Learning Center in Anchorage. To hear the crowds reaction to the release and to see tears in many eyes tugs at my heart.

I wouldn't miss next years powwow!

Wow, I'd love to see something like that in person one day. I think here in Europe various medieval festivals are the closest thing...

You are welcome to check out a report from a recent trip to Rome at my blog. Have fun and keep blogging!
