If these pix's don't make you feel cold......

When I woke up this morning it was +3°F and a heavy fog. They were right when they said heavy, because it was falling like snow. We knew we wanted to go take pix's today, but didn't know where. We decided to keep it close to home.

After breakfast at our usual place, we decided we needed to go home and put on warmer clothes. Even though it had warmed up to +5°F, the wind chill was a killer. It felt like -5°. The temps are suppose to get a little better later in the week.

I was surprised to see so much open water at Ship Creek. I guess because it's moving so fast it's not totally freezing. Nice thing was I didn't see any ducks or geese. That means they finally migrated. I double dog dare you to put your tongue on that railing.

Even though the weather was cold, it made for some good pix's. The tide was out and all of the ice boulders and heavy frost was just attracting us to take more and more.

We headed on down towards the port. This whole area is owned by the Alaska Railroad. They are constantly improving the area to make it more tourist friendly. That's good for me because I'm a resident tourist. There was a strong cold wind coming off the inlet. Ruth didn't brve it for long, but I just had to get in a few more shots.

More ice boulders, more frozen machinery. I don't tink the Cosmic Wind is going anywhere's today.

Brrr....we had a biathlon range opening yesterday. Brrrr...Vivi's toes got too cold.

I love the port in winter. It has this interesting man vs. nature thing going down.

Thanks for the lovely pictures.

Lovely pix, Dave. Doesn't the snow make ordinary things look so beautiful. I put my tongue on an ice cube tray one time....never did that again!

Beautiful pictures. We've had quite the storm here lately, but our weather looks quite balmy compared to yours :)

Glad to see that at least the ducks and geese know when it's gotten too cold for hanging around. :-) 71º here today.

Enjoyed the photos, Dave.

Trixie - Brrr is right.

Meggie - No snow. Heavy frost.

Susie - Balmy will be a welcome break after about a week.

Marvin - the ducks and geese are the only ones with any sense around here. :)

Yeah, these pics do make me feel cold, Dave! I'm happy to say it hit 60 degrees in NYC today. If I have my way, it'll stay that way until April...

Mike - Let's see you build a snowman in that weather. :)

And to think, 50 years ago or longer, my wife and I had two kids then, as I recall, and we were exploring the idea of homesteading in Alaska. And we got all the stuff together to go and then read about taking over farms in Canada. Free. Just walk in and sign papers to agree to live on it for five years, pay nothing while you live there, not even taxes, and then it is your property. That shifted our interest a lot because homesteading involved starting from scratch unless you happened to take over land already homesteaded and abandoned with shacks already built.

In the end, we decided against moving north. And we moved south about 20 miles and have lived here ever since. The baby is now 51 years old and the rest are one year younger for each one.

I enjoyed your post and photography. You have it nice up there if you don't mind the cold.

Cold and gray....yeah, I can relate Dave. The damp always makes cold more bone-chilling. I'm glad you were able to get out and enjoy it though.

Mr Lincoln - you should have made the trip. Thanks and I don't mind the cold all that much.

Diane - we're saving the good weather just for you.

Ruthiej - oh we don't let it stop us from getting out. If we did we never would leave home. :)

Yes, it does look bone-chilling cold there. How do you stay warm?
